We are very happy to announce that we will have some limited internet access at the Cheltenham Art Center during electro-music 2005. The center has recently been equipped with a Comcast cable modem which has an estimated 1.5 Mbs down and 364 kbs up. There will be a wireless hub, a hot spot, so you may wish to bring a laptop if you have a wireless network adapter.

We are in the process of making arrangements to stream live most of the concerts and lectures. We are still in the process of working out the details on this one, so this isn't an official announcement. It may be necessary to limit "public" access to the wireless link when we are streaming - this needs to be evaluated if we get that far. The data rate for the stream will probably be about 56 kbs.

In any case, we are very grateful to Patty Castner at the Cheltenham Art Center for carrying the ball and getting this link.

Just a quick update. It looks like the streaming is going to happen. I've been in touch with Jon Almeleh who has handled much audio production for WBAI and Pacifica Radio in NYC has volunteered to head up this activity. We'll have an "offical" announcement about this soon. We need to get the permission of the musicians, of course.

Since we have serval venues at the Cheltenham Art Center, it's a bit of a logistically challenge to move the computer that's streaming from one venue to another. We are going to use a small FM transmitter that is easy to move. The streaming computer will be hooked up to a very good FM receiver. We tried this out last Thursday at the art center and it works very well. A side benifit, the streams can be heard locally on any FM receiver, so if you are coming you may want to bring your boom box. You can listen to the performances outside while you are having some food or enjoy and beer or something. Unless something changes, we'll use 88.9 MHz.

We'll have a web page up soon that gives the links to the streaming server, and we hope to have a dynamic web page to indicate who is playing. Also the chat room will be used for this live real-time commincation.

Things are happening so fast, I can't even keep up with them...

We are very happy to announce that we will be streaming most of the events from electro-music 2005, thanks to the generous support of Jon Almeleh and other volunteers that support Pacifica Radio. For details, please click here http://event.electro-music.com/streaming.php

The Free Library and all its branches in Phila. have free Internet access. Consult the phone book for the closest branch. However, there may be a long waiting line, depending on the number of computers the library has and how many people have signed up for using it. Call before going and find out how many computers and if the waiting list is long, reserve a spot if you can over the phone.

You might have better success at one of the suburban libraries:*
Abington library 215-885-5180 ( a very good library and several computers)
Cheltenham Library 215-635-5000 (closest to the Art Center)
Huntingdon Valley Library 215-947-5138 (don’t know anything about it)
Jenkintown Library 215-884-0593 (small library)
Northeast Regional Library 215-685-0525 (a large Philadelphia library with lots of computers)

These two are near the Red Roof Inn
Bensalem Library 215-638-2031
Langhorne Library 215-7572510

*Not responsible for the accuracy of the numbers, I got them from the phone books.
*I have personally visited the Abington Library and the Northeast Regional, both are excellent libraries with many computers, however, because they are good, they often have a lot of people there.
