Subject description: 3x TR-808 Cowbell clone
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

I accidentally received some stripboard instead of the usual pad-per-hole perfboard, so I made 3 TR-808 cowbell clones using the beautiful stripboard
layouts posted by minus here.

this is how it looked before I added the oscillators and mixer to the board.

One cowbell will be tuned at the original TR-808 frequencies, the other two have adjustable tuning and besides the build in oscillators an external
source can be used aswell. I did some tests using a VCO which resulted in a short track posted here. Cool

I'm using 555's in monostable mode to provide a short trigger pulse which can be adjusted. It can also be switched to gate mode in which case the
trigger length is set by the trigger input signal. Each cowbell has it's own accent input and level control for which I used part of the original TR-808
circuit. The mixer circuit also came from the original TR-808 schematic.

I cut some scrap shelves into pieces to make a case similar to the CR-78, I'll probably gonna stain the wood or treat it some other way.

did you hear MoooonCows ?
I tried to record some new sounds using the Bandersnatch to trigger the cowbells, but I ended up playing mostly with that one instead Cool

Here's a photo of it all wired up. I still have to drill some mounting holes, stain the case, and get some knobs (that might take a while).
