Sunday, January 20, 2019 Subject description: I'm Sick |
|
|
Hi Everyone,
Just now I left a voice mail for Howard so I may as well announce here as well. Yesterday, I was not feeling well so I asked Howard to postpone Chez Mosc for 24 hours. Sad to say, I am feeling worse today, not better. Apparently, it's my regrettably annual throat infection. I'll go to the doctor tomorrow because if I don't get antibiotics, the infection will inevitably migrate north into my sinus and south into my lungs. As it is, I'm achy and have hardly any energy at all. It is what it is. This is what I get for working at a germy high school despite always washing my hands.
If there will be a Chez Mosc today, it'll be a Howard solo or a recording. There might not be a Chez Mosc at all this week. I'll leave that up to Howard.
Thank you everyone who planned to listen this week and thank you in advance for any well wishes. I'm taking extra vitamin C and echinacea in an effort to boost my immune system. I also had chicken soup for lunch.
Cheers, _________________ Bill Fox------------------|\-------------

No Chez Mosc Today |
|
|
Today is Saturday, April 6. Unfortunately, Howard is not feeling well. We will not broadcast Chez Mosc today. We will return next week. That will give us two weeks in order to prepare for what is essentially a Twyndyllyngs mini-tour. On the 27-28, is eeemfest in Rutherford, NJ, and then Mountain Skies in Black Mountain, NC, will be May 3-5.

| Fourths and fifths are names for two intervals. An interval is the distance between two pitches. Think of a major scale; do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti, do. The distance between any two of those pitches is an interval. A fourth is the distance between do (the first pitch in the scale) and fa. Sing do-fa and you'll hear the interval of a fourth. A fifth is the interval between do and sol. Sing do-sol and you'll hear the interval of a fifth. PHOBoS wrote: | I know the fourth and fifth part (although only understood it since recently) but what does 'open' imply ? | A basic chord is called a triad because it has three notes; a root, a third, and a fifth. It is usually the third that determines the "chord quality," i.e. whether it is a major or minor chord. (For diminished and augmented chords, the fifth also comes into play.) An open chord is not quite a chord because it only has two notes by omitting the third. This makes its quality ambiguous since we cannot tell if it is major or minor; a very cool effect. So you basically have an interval of a fifth. If you play the same notes but bring the lower one up an octave, the interval is now a fourth. _________________ Bill Fox------------------|\-------------

ah, thanks again Bill that makes total sense
never really thought about the "If you play the same notes but bring the lower one up an octave, the interval is now a fourth. neat.
But I am already happy if I manage to press single keys in succession that don't sound too horrible. Although I do know some chords.
djfoxyfox wrote: | I am not getting the entire file. Is anyone else experiencing download problems? | It looks like it downloads the complete file but the file itself isn't the complete set (it's about 47 minutes). _________________ "My perf, it's full of holes!"

Another apology from me. We had the honor of playing at the Electrofest 2019 at the National Electronics Museum in Baltimore last night. I'm sorry I didn't update the notice on the site. We won't be able to play a Chez Mosc next week for other reasons.
Anyway, last night the Electrofest was great fun. Thanks to the organizers for having us. Thomas Dolby of "Science" fame was there too. Several other electro-musicians were there as well. The venue and the music was wonderful. _________________ --Howard

I took a long drive yesterday and finally had the opportunity to listen to our set. When I have the chance, I’ll trim it to size and upload it here. _________________ Bill Fox------------------|\-------------

Nice job on the recording, Bill. When we were playing there were several instances where the monitor speakers were distorting badly. The mix off the board sounded moderately clean though.
Thanks to the organizers of ElectronicaFest for having us. We enjoyed hearing some great music, linking up with old friends, and making new ones. The National Electronics Museum had some really fascinating exhibits. We were "dazzled by science" and we met Thomas Dolby, too. _________________ --Howard
