Here's an efficient up/down counter circuit I came up with some time ago, using a feedbacked mixer as a variable.

The "count" and "reset" buttons can obviously be replaced by logic triggers in order to build up/down sequencers etc. ...

Hope it is useful.

regards,
tim

very neat, a flip flop as a 1 clock pulse generator. Smile

Very useful. I like this. Great improvement over earlier circuits.

Here is a slight improvement. With this circuit, you can now set the reset value. It becomes a PRESET value.

I changed the STEP SIZE circuit to be a unipolar constant. This has the advantage of being able to set it to quarter tones.

Also added a FWD/REV switch and level detector circuit so direction can be controlled by a control, in this demo case, by an oscillator.

Also added UPPER and LOWER limits for the counter.

==============================

Things to improve. Now when an upper or lower limit is hit, the counter jumps to the PRESET value. There should be a circuit to cause it to jump to the opposite limit; digitally controlled, of course.

Thanks, Tim. Very Happy

==============================

BTW, is there a better way to get a -64 constant, or to get a controllable voltage inverter than what I used? Seems pretty ugly to me. Laughing

A LevelConv does it quite well, select Pos for in signal type and bipolar out, changes the 0,1 pulse into a -1,1

Not for use right now, but I'll remeber this - thanks. To you as well Howard, some interesting mods you made.

Great stuff, Howard.

There's many things that can be done to this circuit. That's the reason why I decided to post only the very basic core, leave the rest up to the end user.

Eg., here's another application: using the circuit as a DIY sawtooth oscillator with linear frequency input.

It's admittedly rather pointless but was fun to patch up right now while I'm drinking my morning coffee Smile.

Fun to hear these sounds and not see any oscillator or filter modules on the screen. Cool

Update: check out this (http://electro-music.com/forum/post-44650.html#44650) if you are interested in this stuff
