Here is very low dsp/mem retro string pad.

It uses two pairs of sine oscillators with diode rectifiers. Summing the opposite full wave rectified halves gives a variable slope saw/triangle/ramp. The shape depends on the phase difference. Because the oscillators are detuned, the phase and therefore shape is constantly changing at the beat frequency. A keyboard morph on the fine tune evens out the variation in beating, and a chorus in the FX area blurs things into a 70's style string ensemble effect.

Might be useful if you need a string-like pad and are running low on DSP.
I think the basic idea should work on the NM classic so might be a good one for Micro owners.
