hi all,

i am currently working on a wasp VCF clone. i took the original schematic, changed the core resistor values to more common ones and added a simple exponential current source. with kind permission it will incorporate seb francis' 3stage cmos distortion circuit from the box-o-trix.

here is the question:
i wonder if it was a good time to offer it to the community now. there were so much projects and even PCB offers lately. should i wait? maybe it would be better to let the people catch breath? i really don't know. what do you think?

Nah, i´m still considering your question. The WASP filter seems like a great idea. Go for it!

Wasn´t it the new member Bearblock who posted something about him making a line level balanced input / output module for his modular? That seems like a cool project to take on.This is exactly what I want to do when I have gotten all those filters ( the 8 SSM 2044 stuff ) put together and running fine in the dotcom portable cabinet
. That said, such a module.. like a more mature version of he Cynthia Anything module seems like a brilliant idea for getting more people into modular synths. OK.. analouge warmth and all that.. anyways, what a lot of newbees want is to get access to all the hyped filters. some of these guys knows a bit about soldering already.. but they haven´t yet discovered the joys of modular synthesis. Why buy lotsa Moogerfoogers when you can build a cabinet full of wonderful and truly sick stuf?

I guess this is one of those subjects that maybe should be out in the main forums?

Personally I'm backed up quite a bit with pcb project from you, Matthias, and others. I have a feeling some others will be too!

But -- ! -- don't we all have big eyes and constant desire for more wonders?
I'm sure there'd be plenty of people interested!
The three you've done so far have been top-notch, especially with documentation support too.

Darn, and I'm interested in balanced I/O too but I'll probably just DIY those small scale - seems simple enough if you can get the suitable SSM or similar chips.

And one more thought -- wouldn't it be great to make a DIY porta-case kit?!

An extensive i/o unit for outboard and DAW integration seems like the most obvious thing that would make the whole modular synth business meaningful for a lot of the hiphopers, DandB, rock and ambient heads out there.

A portable cab?

Like this one?

Yay, demonic Stein is back!

I have one question, Fonik: when do you sleep? Laughing

A wasp filter would be great. I'm like Tom, I'm so backed up I can see Monday from here, but it sure is tempting.

I'm amazed at all of the things that are coming up here at EM - your boards, Bill's boards, JH's amazing devices, Ian's boards, TH's, and there are others. Where was this board five years ago so I could have all of those projects done by now?

I was actually thinking of this on the way home tonight, but I'll save the gist of that for another thread.
