hi.

A week ago I stumbled on a topic containing some basic faq about modular synths and now just can't find it. I'm not sure was it in tis sub-forum or somewhere else. Does someone have it in bookmarks maybe? I'm searching forum all day and cannot find it Sad

Cheers

I'm not sure which FAQ you're looking for... but here a couple links to the synthesizers.com wiki...

A few tutorials (both at the wiki and elsewhere):
http://www.synthesizers.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Main.Tutorials

Here's a few books and online articles:

Another forum that's dedicated to modular synths is here (many of the same faces you see here and on the various synth lists):

I tried to find it using search on several variations on faq... no luck. Hopefully someone else remembers something that was in the faq and can track it down for you.

I don't remember something like that on this forum...

It would be a good thing to have.

There are a ton of tutorials and faq's out there - finding them is always the interesting bit. The synthesizers.com wiki had the right start - but it kind of died on the vine...

Hey - a.b.o.z - have you seen the Synth Secrest series in Sound on Sound - might be worth skimming the titles. A bit of everything...

Or maybe not, was there anything particular in it that could give a hint for finding it back?

I know that I was looking for some topics about attenuators and came across that topic. It was structured like a dictionary:
something like this

term: short explanation
term: short explanation
term: short explanation
term: short explanation
term: short explanation
term: short explanation
etc..
Smile this is weird.

Yep, got give the 'Synth Secrets' columns by Gordon Reid a BIG thumbs up ( I have every part of the series in a huge ring bound folder )

A re-print of Alan Strange's book is still around too - thats a great source of ground up basics too.

Since we're on the subject... I found printing out the Doepfer manuals really helpful when I was looking at what type of modular to start buying and to understand a little better what modulars were all about and how different modules worked together. Each manual has examples that show different patching ideas and what modules work well together.

A great way to test concepts would be the G2 software demo.
Direct link to OS X version
Direct link to MS Win version.
