Module like Nord Mod wavewrapper Subject description: Does it exist? |
 |
|
I'm looking for a (hardware) module similar to this:
Wavewrapper
This module amplifies a signal until it hits the headroom. Instead of clipping the signal, it folds down, “wraps around". The waveform of the signal will be heavily transformed, with a lot of new overtones, which gives it distortion- or FM-like characteristics.
Dotcom format or DIY would be great, but I'll take anything I can remount.
Any ideas? |

Well the Oakley Wavefolder Mk3 is just the ticket for this job and the CGS Wavemultiplier does this plus a load of other wonderfull serge type modulations too. Does the Dot Com rectifier/clipper do the same ?

Thanks for the pointers. I had looked at the CGS site but was scanning for "wrapper" and didn't make the connection with "Wave Multiplier". It looks like the one I am going to go for.
(The Oakley one looks really nice but uses a CA3280 IC and I'm not sure I can find one that isn't off-the-wall expensive.)
The dotcom clipper only clips -- you don't get the clipped off part of the wave back in order to use it to subtract from the original waveform and accomplish the 'folding/wrapping'. |

The Oakley and the CGS29, as mentioned (here's some info on the CGS):
http://www.cgs.synth.net/modules/cgs29_wave_multiplier.html
You can buy it assembled from Bridechamber:
http://www.bridechamber.com/
Bananalogue makes one, the WVX, which is based on the Serge Wave Multiplier (which sounds very good, similar to the Nord module):

And I'm having a couple made for me by "Suit & Tie Guy" from the Dotcom forum. Should be ready in a few weeks. Let me know if you'd like contact info.
Doepfer also makes one, and it's cheaper than most of the others but I have heard mixed reviews about the sound quality. _________________ Dave Peck |

| I have a stripboarded Jurgen Haible Waveshaper B which I really like - comparable to the Nord module but smoother/nicer imo. The only semi's needed are a quad opamp and a bunch of cheap diodes - I used the 4th oa as a trimmable gain stage, as otherwise the output is less than 1V peak-to-peak. |
