Hello mosc,

The following is an email sent to you by Randaleem via your account on electro-music.com. If this message is spam, contains abusive or other comments you find offensive please contact the webmaster of the board at the following address:

admin@electro-music.com

Include this full email (particularly the headers). Please note that the reply address to this email has been set to that of Randaleem.

Message sent to you follows

Hi Howard,

In looking at the site and the "have arrived" thread, it seems there is an easy and relatively seamless approach to doing what we're after. First, and foremost, this libelious post of Steins needs to be deleted as it is incorrectly characterizing the page shown as having been public. (And also providing a direct link to something which was never made public.

We already talked about this and you said you would this. Sooner is better, IMO.

Then...

Fortunately, Near the end of the "have arrived" thread you have posted the request to have anything further WRT TH QFG's handled off e-m. Following that are only three replies. And only one needs changed to gracefully close out the thread without needing another post or another thread by me.

We simply replace this one, again by elektro80, which was an attempt to answer the previous request for contact information. However, what he posted is again unpublished and inaccurate. The link does not lead to any active contact point for me. Here's his post:

Thank you, Robert Smile

Hey Robert, this is what you want:

http://www.geomusa.com/cat/forums.html?main_page=contact_us
<snip>

So by simply deleting that one and you posting this CORRECT info in its place, the "problem" is solved gracefully:

***Begin msg***

Hi,

I'm posting this for Randal since this thread has now been closed and locked.

[quote="Randaleem"] The best way to contact me with any questions, comments, concerns or to place an order is to use my regular email: randaleem at yahoo dot com.

***not part of msg*** Side note: Howard, if you have a way to simply make my normal email a click-able link, that would probably be better and easier for everyone?
***back to msg***

Here is the correct future GeoM website address: http://www.geomusa.com (Note it has not yet been opened and presently there is only a white cover page at the site. The dummy page and contact link posted by electro80 were never in public view, or provided to anyone privately. That contact link was eroneous as well.

This is the correct address to use when writing or mailing:

GeoM
8320 Canyon Oak Dr
Citrus Heights, CA 95610
USA

At present, THD107A QFG PCB's are in stock and shipping daily. Extra's are available.

Let's respect Mosc's decision to close out this thread and please handle ALL future contact with regard to the THD107A QFG project by using the information provided here. Thank you for your orders and support!

Kind regards, Randal

***end msg***

I hope you agree this is a clean and simple solution. I don't think deleting this thread or starting another is as good a solution. People can read and make up their own minds, and we're not censors that way (only deleting incorrect infornation in the two posts by Stein)

FWIW, I have had a terrible time trying to log online the last day or so. I've managed to send this, but if you don't get an immediate reply to anything you send me in response, it's likely that I cannot get online. I will call later to confirm you have received this message if I am unable to get a decent internet connection again today. Otherwise, I will look for your reply at my regular email address to save us the phone call.

Thank you for enduring the recent phone calls to try for resolution. I am truly sorry that things have gone this way. I appreciate your vision and leadership, and look forward to this becoming a past chapter, and perhaps one day again being allowed to post in public at e-m.

Kindest regards, Randal

Hopefully this is the end of this. I removed the link and the image of Randal's web page that Stein posted here: http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-19225-168.html

Spoke informally with a lawyer about it. No way is it libel, of course, but he said it could be a copyright violation. Web pages are copyrighted automatically in the US. One has to be careful reposting or reprinting web pages. If the copyright holder requests that you remove content and you don't, then you could possibly be in for trouble.

These are a lot of could be's and possibly be's but in this case I'd rather not give Randal anything to amuse himself with.

Main point is that he accepted to keep the biz info.

However, googling www.geomusa.com will bring back the "evidence". Laughing

Yes, that's true. Maybe he'll go after google. Laughing

Anyway, Google gets around it (being sued) by removing links and page caches on request.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again, it is quite possible to develop web pages on a local computer without making them "publicly" accessible. If you don't want people to see something, then don't put it out on the WWW for Heaven's sake. You might as well stand naked on a freeway overpass and shout "don't look at me!"

I think everything written is automatically copyrighted in all of the West and most other countries.

However if you are criticising or reviewing (etc) a work you can cite from that work, as long as it's proportional (I can't cite all of Stephen King's "It" followed by saying "I thought it rocked"), when analysing a poem in a larger article you can probably end up citing (nearly) all of it and be perfectly in the clear.

I agree we need to be careful but I also think we are definitely within our rights to cite from his page as it's quite clear how and why this happens. Evidently we aren't passing his work off as our own but it might get hazy if somebody who stands to gain from it does it (say somebody else selling boards....).

Deep-linking might be a related issue, there were some very odd rulings on that.

Overall I'm much more interested in having and sharing information then I'm in juridical scare-mongering but IANAL and I won't be the one getting sued so that's easy to say, still, we can always back down at the first letter.

Ha, so my boards are in the country. I got a note from Royal Snail today, they want an additional £16 in customs and postal shakedown fee for these boards. So $45 + $32 = $77 for what I expect to be run of the mill boards which Fonik would have shipped on time for about 1/3 the price.

Way to go.

Ach, don't remind me. I haven't heard of anybody trying a build yet, I assume that's going to be all private channel anyway, which is probably as it should be. I don't intend to build for a while. I might build one of them, Thomas made a nice circuit. Sigh.

I won't know until I get to the post orifice. I assume £8 is the Post Orifice's handling charge. That leaves me with £8 on a $45 shipment, which is still way over, but I have no idea what that nimrod wrote on his customs form. He probably wrote that they were worth $60 or something. I dunno. If he fucked it up, I will mention it in one of the threads, politely of course.

Did you ever figure out why the VAT/Inspection fees were so high?

Yes, Scott, the fucker valued the two boards at $78. This attracted $28 in VAT and customs. My wife picked up the boards today. Bloody annoying, that $45 turned into $74. But I guess they're really purdy Rolling Eyes Exclamation

$39 apiece? I would estimate that as a 600% markup from what they cost him, judging from the number and size of the boards in that pic of the box of PCBs he posted.

Well, someone totally screwed up the customs form. I'll document it when I get home to see it for myself. I only paid him $45 for two boards and some chips "thrown in free", we'll see if they're there.
