For Ian Fritz :) Subject description: An open letter to the mod forum |
 |
|
Ian, I know that I have already posted you a PM, but this is an mildly edited version of an open letter I sent to your (brilliant) chaos thread;
| Tom Fenn wrote: | Ian I just got a note from Mosc that I had accused you of stealing ideas. You got me completely wrong mate- this wasn't and hasn't ever been my intention at all, ever.- in fact I could 'accuse' Grant (if that was actually the case- which is not) of 'stealing' the led on the front of the panel from all those 70's light organs and everything else!
I was merely pointing out that others were also using this excellent idea- and I was also thinking exactly the same thing with the led's in the MS20 circuit.(although I think that this has now been suggested?)
Ian you are one of the greatest assets to the DIY forum Why on earth, especially now, would I want to sabotage everything that we have built on??
So please this (again) has been a misunderstanding. The last few days have been a total shit for all of us, so lets all have a great big cuddle hey?
|
The only working module I have at present is a Wogglebug- the last one in fact from Grant. I have been so busy for the last 3 years that I have had no time to really get on with building my dream machine- a modular synth. I have been toying with the idea of selling it, but it's just too cool, so it sits there unused at the moment.
We all had a shit weekend- you probably felt it even more, because you are not a moderator, so to speak.
Scott says that he finds it hard understanding other's cultures (although I think his humour is very British in many ways), and on the internet this is particularly difficult as there is no body language either (not good imo). I know exactly where Scott is coming from here, because to me, English text is just English text, and depending on how we grew up, the culture on the other side is very different. I know the culture in Germany and Norway for eg is also very different. I think that you guys from there do a very good job. I got my head bitten off from Nozzie recently because he completely misread me too, but I've decided not to reply there, because he got personal, and that's not a positive. Anyway I'm waffling now....
Again, this has been a misunderstanding, as my message was supposed to be a positive one, and not a negative like you read. And again I'm really sorry if I upset you- it certainly wasn't my intention.

Thank you Tom. It has been very frustrating for me that so many people have bought my boards but not used them. The conversation with bearblock was one of my very few opportunities to get some feedback. That's why I was quite disappointed when I heard you say, in effect, "this is a good thread except you stole your ideas". I'm sorry I misunderstood. And I do appreciate the stress you have been under.

It's not the stress I've been under, it's the stress that we all have been under.
I never once said or implied; "this is a good thread except you stole your ideas". I accept your apology, but please don't twist my sentences around. It's unfair, as I have enough problems trying to string them together to make sence in the first place
I'd love one of your boards too, but I too, also have other commitments at present. I still haven't finished Ray's Soundlab- and that's the whole reason (apart from Jan Punter) that I am on electro-music.com in the first place.
Please don't be hard on the other members. I didn't realise that so few of your boards are yet to be assembled either. I am rather idealistic at times and just presume that is only myself who hasn't gotten around to building anything
Kits IMO, are the way forward I think? But kits are also a logistical nightmare- as I also learnt (the hard way again ). I feel that many people love the idea of constructing things (me included) but get a real shock when they actually realise how much work is really involved. I often try to remember and point people in the direction of Jurgen's VCS3 clone page when this happens _________________ ACHTUNG!

You said it was an otherwise good thread. People generally phrase thing this way when they are bringing up a significant problem. I'm sorry if I misunderstood.

Off topic:
The DIY forum will be growing and growing and whenever we have the chance to group good stuff together in subforums, then I think we should do so.
I think we should set up an Ian Fritz subforum. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

They do say that America and the UK are two cultures separated by a common language.
I understand your irritation at how few are using your boards, Ian, especially since I'm one of those people not using your board (yet). This will be "rectified" when I finally pick up a couple of the right Zener diodes. I've had the board built for a couple of months. A lame excuse, I know, but I can't believe I don't have those in my considerable parts kit and I have to remember to add them to an order if I'm going to receive them... _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

No problem Ian.
I'm pleased this one is resolved, as it made me very depressed this morning.
I'm going to have to ask my 'psychiatrist' why my writing keeps getting me into trouble, as this isn't the first time I've said something and it has been taken another way. _________________ ACHTUNG!
