Hello all.

Now my friend and I work in Jakarta for about 10 days,
we have some free time, and we've heard we can find some secondhand shops for music instruments around here and get a vintage gear for a good price.

So.. do you recommend any places I should visit?
Or is there a place with many many kinds of music instrument stores here?

Today we've walked around Glodok but still haven't found what we're looking for heheh.

Thank you ^_^

I travelled through Indonesia for a few months years ago, but I have no idea about where you might find electronic musical equipment. Only the larger cities like Jakarta, Jogya and Solo in Java would have enough population to support a second hand electro-music shop.
One thing's for sure, if you find one, I'd say the obscurity of instruments could only be matched by the amazing prices. I'd love to go looking around for something like that in another country. I reckon the best place to crawl around the second hand music shops would be Japan. Wow, can't imagine what that would be like.

I think the chances of finding good old synth gear in Indo are not good. You may find some decent amps or replica guitars, but even then you would be lucky.

I hope I am proved wrong
Some guy was making electronic gamelan instruments there back in the 70s -

that would be a treasure!

Anyway back off topic - the synth shops in Japan were great to look at but they knew the value of their stock.
There is a chain of 2nd hand bookshops in Japan called 'Book off',
they opened a series of stores selling all kinds of 2nd hand gear which they naturally called 'Hard off'.
Hard Off was great, got a yamaha CS5 for $20 and a CS15 for $40, Korg stageEcho for $20, mixers, drum machines....and more Laughing

Glodok ? Then you're most likely find 'porn heaven' instead of gears Laughing

Vintage gears are very rare here..
