Glad to see so much talk about Ambiophonics Subject description: new member with a new filter to try out |

Hi all, I've been fairly intensely interested in Ambiophonics for the past 2 years or so. During that time I have endeavored to develop ways to implement Ambiophonics into my profession as an audio engineer.
Having just discovered this site I am thrilled to find so much useful discussion on this subject. I'm quite impressed with the VST filter put forward by mosc and the way it addresses the weaknesses I heard in the RACE, Choueiri, and Bacch methods. Particularly weaknesses to do with the coloration of the center/sum information in the playback signal, reverberation and unacceptable coloration across the stereo sound field.
My filter is built using JS (jesusonic) dsp code and as such can be run natively in the daw program Reaper http://www.cockos.com/reaper/, standalone using the JS application found here http://www.jesusonic.com/soft.php and that package also contains a winamp plugin and an experimental directx plugin.
After attempting to use filters to equalize some of the things I didn't like out of the signal I arrived at an Ambiophonic filter design I've taken to calling raceMS (the MS standing for Mid/Side). It sounds quite different than the mosc filter in that it is recursive and definitely colours and darkens the stereo spread information, but it does a similar job of passing the mid/sum information straight through unaffected. I agree that this is essential for any kind of modern music and particularly for any professional application. I did attempt to filter and equalize the brightness back into the stereo spread but eventually decided (after much subjective listening) that I preferred the sense of envelopment and ability to accurately perceive and localize sounds with the darker filter. As with anything subjective YMMV and you are free to disagree (and tell me why).
Please give it a listen.

the link wants to save an octet stream to my disk, are you sure the url is right?
BTW with using HTML tags directly most links can be made clickable, the BBCode URL tags and raw links work less well.
Please type HTML link tags like:
<a href="http://shup.com/shup!/107789/RACE-MS" target="_BLANK">http://shup.com/shup!/107789/RACE-MS</a>
including the target specs to let the page open in a new window (as other forum links do). _________________ Jan
also .. could someone please turn down the thermostat a bit.

The octet stream is correct. JS plugins are just plain text files with no extension. You can utilize it by copying it into the "Effects" directory of whatever JS installation you choose (Reaper or Standalone) or by copying the contained text into the code page of a newly created JS plugin. |
