new lead 2 / new weird issues Subject description: polyphony problem? bad keyboard?
big thanks to everyone who had some helpful info on my last problem.
just today I received a new nord lead 2, and immediatley noticed something was amiss.
mono patches work fine, no hiccups, no dead keys. all as it should be. however, if I pull up a polyphonic sound with a longer release, I start getting some notes not triggering.
at first I thought it was dead keys, but every key works every time in mono. then I thought maybe the outputs were set to alternate, but no. Then I notice that there is a pattern, either 1 2 3 4 (5) (6) repeat or 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 (9) repeat. [where (x) = doesn't trigger]
also, maybe unrelated, but when powered on, a few strange filtered sonding static bursts erupt from the output.
i bought this as a backup while my other one gets fixed for some other shocking problems, so now I'm trying to feel out if there is an easy fix, or should I just return it and keep shopping. anyone ever have similar problems? maybe I can switch out some part from one to the other and have a good working one, and one really busted one to send to the shop...
after some more tweaking, i've also discovered that this happens in the arp mode too. As i turn up the release on a polysynth sound the arp gets a 'swing' which actually is kind of cool, but not at the expense of the issue at hand.
So it's behaving more like a polyphony problem rather than a keyboard problem. As it runs out of polyphony, instead of killing the oldest note, it's just not letting me make a new one.
Is there a way to reinstall the os 1.06? or is that a chip only situation.

This is indeed troublesome and not easy...

It's hard to see from here, but is there any differences when just one ore more Slots are active? And are you just playing single notes or chords?

Can you make a mp3 from this?

Are talking about new (2X) instruments or second hand?

Yep, this happens sometimes, although I can't reproduce it whenever I wat to. Sometimes I want the wrong notes and they won't come! It is charming in a way...
It special comes in when the Arp is running in Hold mode and the Arp Range is set from 'off' to the first range.

I still can't figure it out what's happening.

to clarify, this is a used nord lead 2. not the 2x. I just purchased it over the phone from a guitar center somewhere and it was shipped to me in 'perfect working order' I have 20 something days left to return it to my local guitar center for a full refund if it proves to be an expensive fix.
To clarify even more about the issue, i've created a video clip to share.
At first you'll hear the loud static bursts upon boot up. These bursts are not of the same number or length every time.
Then I test out some keys with a short release and everything is fine. All notes sound from each key with no hiccups.
As the release is turned up, the pattern of dead notes emerge. Sometimes this pattern seems more random, but this is typically how it goes (unison on)
I turn off the unison and find a new pattern of dead notes. (again this is the most typical pattern that happens, but not always)
To point out that i don't believe this to be a case of dead or erratic keys, i enable the arp and turn up the release to replicate the pattern.
I wrote clavia directly as well, and hopefully will hear back from them sometime this upcoming week. I also plan on calling the nearest clavia service space (an hour's+ drive) to hopefully get a rough idea from them.

So it does look like a Voices problem. Is there only one Slot active or more? And Out mode isn't in [3.Ab] and [3.cd] or [-.cd] which only one cable connected to the sound mixing desk? Is this also on the headphone?

You wrote to info@clavia.se? If you reacted into support the mail will go directly to the distributor who will not always answer...

I should check the intern cables first. I think you know how to pen the hood Unplug the power cable!
I would like to reproduce this problem on my own Nordlead2. First, does it happens to all the Programs or just some? Can you send me a Midi or a SysEx file using [Shift+OctaveUp=DumpOne]?
sorry, i though video would have been the easiest way to see what was happening. I have some mp3s now too with detailed descriptions.

just used the form on their site (clavia.se / support / technical support). no email address was given.

Well, i have already disconnected and reconnected all the ribbon cables inside. The ones from motherboard to power board, motherboard to keys, and motherboard to controllers. I also thought about trying to reseat the os chip. I heard they just snap in / are solderless, but i couldn't seem to budge it easily and left it be.

it happens on all programs if you set them to poly and the release time is long enough. I've even used some sounds from the memory card of my other nord lead 2 (os 1.04) with the same results. Also works in manual mode. I really hope this couldn't be reproduced on your nordlead2, because that would mean yours was broken too!

I would say your Lead is broken...
The NordLead2 has 16 Voices and there 3 groups of 4, from which the last one isn't triggering.
Some more questions...
Does it also happen at other Arp modes then Up&Down?
With the arp at [0] and playing 8 notes, what happens to number 9?
And playing in normal mode, which is Arp=off?
With and without Unison?
well, my audio files are listed backwards for some reason. only the one mp3 is using the arp. the others are played by hand (with and without unison)
what your're saying about one of the voice groups being toast makes total sense and sounds like a 'not simple' fix, so I will probabaly just return it and shop around for a new one.
maybe I'll get a lead2rack. if I can find a midi controller that seems nice and sturdy with splitable key zones.

I saw the video.
The only way to get these kind of irregular patterns is using the Arp in Pecussion mode where some regions are muted by the PatchGain.
Add the burst when booting is only one conclusion: broken for sure

PS I'll try this evening if the NL2 is indeed a 16 Voice instrument as in the adverts...
Shouldn't be surprized it appears to be a 12 Voice machine...
[In Hold mode and no Unison play a high pitched note and press 12 times a low note. If the high one stops it is 12 Voices; when it mute after 16 times it is 16 Voices.] Everybody can check this... Don't forget to set the Unison off!
