Nord Wave LFO Hz->BPM Subject description: inaccurate? |
 |
|
Hi,
I realize that the Nord Wave will not (at this point) sync to a MIDI clock. However, the internal LFO1 seems to be inaccurate.
When I set the LFO to 2.0Hz, and hold down a sound that is modulated by that LFO, the modulated sound will not sync with a drum machine or my microKORG -- both running in sync -- at 120BPM. The Wave is a hair faster and the sync accumulates an offset after about 5 or 6 seconds.
I also recorded the LFO-affected sound with ProTools so I could measure the BPM. Protools said that the sound was moving at about 123BPM but the wave was set to 2.0Hz at the time of recording.
Has anyone else noticed this problem? Am I maybe doing something that is preventing the LFO from sticking to 2.0Hz (LFO2 was off)?
Thanks,

I know this is a nonsense answer, but anyway...
Strangely enough the NordLead, in any version, a setting of [56] (using Shift+LFO wave form) is exactly 120 BPM. All the rest isn't any round number. Surely Clavia developers used this as a calibration point.
Isn't there a way to sync to midi clock like the NordLead? That one will restart every bar, so the shift in tempo is less annoying.

I understand what you're saying and it makes sense. But it isn't really an excuse since, for musicians, accuracy in time is important.
As far as I know there isn't any way to sync the LFO to a MIDI clock in the Wave (you can with the Lead). I haven't found an option for it and I've found people complaining about that functionality in other posts.
Can anyone with a Wave verify that 2.0Hz is not 120BPM on their boards?
Thanks,

This is exactly why we have sync, as it is very difficult to synchronize two pieces of equipment that are more advanced than a simple clock. Sync is simply setting two or more devices to the same clocking device, and as you rightly say it is very easy to hear when two signals drift out of time with one another.
This is a major short coming on the wave, and one of the reasons I have not gotten one yet. _________________ Muied Lumens Sub Forum

Let's hope they add that to the next OS upgrade, which I'm hoping will arrive for Christmas. I'd also like to see user loadable SWAVS -those short, one cycle waves available in OSC2. Did anyone start a wishlist for the Wave ?
I'm a user & beta tester for Piaoteq (.com), the virtual piano software (awesome) and that company is very responsive to user requests. |
