Hi I just bought a Nord Wave

and I wonder can the Wave play more than one program at the same time through a sequencer like cubase?

Beacause when I try to make it play a bassline and then I ad a new track and want it also to play a string then suddenly both tracks play string.

I mean the synth have 18 voices so it should be able to play 18 instruments at the same time?

welcome mooore

Slot A and B can be seen as two different synthesizers. Set each Slot to a different Midi cannel, like A to 1 and B to 2. See [Manual page 67].

The 18 Voices means you can play 18 keys at once, because the synth can produce the sound 18 times. Hitting number 19 key means key number 1 will be muted to sound 19.

Of course you can play 18 different sounds at once, only these has to be set to 18 different keys, so only one note per key. But that’s another story Smile

Thanks Very Happy

Ok I get the voices, but can the synth play a basline and piano and strings at the same time when I use it with a sequenser like cubase.

I tried and I can make it play a basline on track 1 but when I ad a new track and chose a pinosound on track 2 suddenly cubase is playing the pianosound on both chanels

Im not shure im new to this

if I set MIDI in on Wave to chan 1 and make a track a track in Cubase and choose MIDI output to chan 1 I can make cubase play a bassline

but when I create another track with MIDI output to chanel 1 in Cubase and choose another program like a stringsound than the north wave start to play the string sound on both tracks, the bassline is stringline now.

if I create a track with MIDI chanel 2 as output the synth is silence

but if I change the MIDI in on the wave to Bi-timbral I can make the north wave to play on both chanel 1&2 but the problem remains I can stil not make the wave to play a basline and a string sound at the same time.

also when I use bi-timbral the synth is silent on chanel 3-16

Thanks for answering Wout!

MIDI is just a set of instructions, independent of what sounds that are played. So when you set up cubase to play a bass line, it is giving these instructions to the Wave, which then plays the actual sound.

You are better off actually recording the sound coming out of the wave into Cubase using the audio output from the Wave, then changing the sound on the wave to a string sound and record that on a new a new track in Cubase. And so on. Remember to mute the midi track for each take.

The Nord, being bi-timbral, can play two instruments simutaneously. (You can do more, but it is not a very practical solution) If you have a bass sound on slot A and a string sound on slot B and set these to MIDI channel 1 and 2, you should be able to play both a bass sound and string sound at the same time. But that is as far as it goes, really.

Hope this makes sense, and congratulations on a great synth purchase! Smile
