hello folks,
i'm looking for a comprehensive book about subtractive sound synthesis. i have the nord lead but there's some things i'd just like to try like emulating gongs and bells, things like these. just can't get it done myself. i don't want to replicate, but simply am looking for some other places to start with. so i am looking for some in-depth writings, preferably but not necessary on the nord lead specifically. any help, book recommendations as well as pdf-links highly appreciated-
cheers!

There are a lot of tutorials on the net.
You can download the Clavia G2 Demo version from Clavia’s site for free and take a look at the tutorials written for the Nord Modular Classic by Rob Hordijk and Roland Kuit.

To the NordLead2 I would suggest using FM synthesis to obtain bell like sounds.
There are 4 Slots, which means you can use 4 tones which are controlled by FM.
The ModEnv controls the amount of FM in each part. Take a short Attack and a longer Decay to create the hit of the bell.
I won´t describe all the settings, because I think the trial and error method is the best in this stage, only do it easy and slowly. Little by little you´ll find some metal hit sound soon.
Better to start with only one Slot and add the others later.
Please set the Filter completely open (turned clockwise) and don´t forget the AmpEnv!

Wout

Synth Secrets is quite a read if you want in-depth - -

Not only about substractive synthesis but a lot of the articles concern exactly what you are after: how to synthesise specific sounds.
