Do I have problem? Subject description: performance mode in NL2x |
 |
|
Hello!
I am new to the nord family with a Nord Lead 2x so, please forgive any stupid questions that I would probably make...
The problem that I seem to have with my brand new NL2x is in the performance mode: by creating a performance bank with 4 indepenent midi channels, sometimes the programs does not sound the same as they do in single mode (different velocity, increased lfo depth, arp on when it should be off etc.). And I'm sure that I'm selecting the right sound banks and numbers... This does not affect all the sounds... only in slot b or c
All this without having any midi cable attached to my nord!
I'm reading the manual but I can't find any note about this thing...
Maybe I bought it broken...?
Is it a problem that can be solved? |

This could be a long jouney, but worthwhile to undertake it! Most users don't play in Performance mode...
1 You select Performance mode. What does the LCD indicate? [A.09] or something?
2 Press the Slot A bottun. What does the the LCD indicates?
3 The same to the other three Slots. What does the tell you?
4 Are you able to send us the four Programs?
5 Are there any Morphs in those Programs?
Until now...

Thnx Wout for the quick reply
I think I found the solution but I'm not so sure if this is something from the "dark side" of the nord line, or my its my synth... only time will tell and I hope it will be soon... (in 2 years guarantee is off!)
Anyway, here are the answers to your questions:
1. D.04 I think... but it's for sure a ram possition.
2. 1.21 (single program)
3. other single programs... modified and stored in ram (1.23, 1.26 etc.)
4. not yet
5. MORPHS!
that's where the problem is: playing with sound 1.21 in performance mode, after 1-2 minites the sound changed (without moving any wheel...) and stayed like this. It had the morph active (mod wheel)
and the mod wheel was down. After this change, any movement of the wheel didn't gave me the first sound...
I switched to single mode, found the sound (1.21) and deactivated the morph... shift+assign (clear). After that I saved the sound and went back to performance, selected the new sound and... O.K.
But why is that? Why morph function is so "sensitive"? Or there is something else goin' on? |

Is there a Pedal involved, because it will act the same as the Wheel?
I could be a bad pot, but mostly this can be corrected by turning the Wheel.
Just for as good understanding about Performances: the data is saved into a special Performance memory, which means in D.04 the Program 1.21 isn't the same data as 1.21 in the Program bank... This is an heritage from the original NordLead1! It doesn't help with the troubles, but it could be important to know! Changing and saving Program bank 1.21 doesn't affect Program 1.21 in Performance D.04, meaning the memory isn't disctructive

Oops, I forget...
The new upload resets the data always, of course!

Yeah I know that... I also know about the performance - single situation
Regarding the pedal input: No, the synth is brand new (still smells clavia!) and I haven't connected it to a pedal, a pc or any other midi device...yet.
From the last time I changed the morph thing to the single program and reloaded it to the performance, all sounds O.K.
Anyway, time will tell. |

Still there is the question why the sound changed so drastically...
I have to work here in the blind, not owing a NL2X, so I can't check D.04...
I once had the trouble a Performance didn't went silent after releasing the key. It appeared one Slot/Program wasn't assigned to the Wheel/Morph combination, but simply to Velocity assigned to the Amp Release! One hard bang and the sound goes on a long time when set to the max!
So not all Slots have to have the same Morph etc. features.

I own some other synths (alesis micron, novation nova, roland xp30, korg poly800mkII, jen sx1000, kawai k1m and manny others that I sold them to get the NL2x...) so you may say that I know alot about sound synthesis etc.
To tell you the trouth, I'm kind of stressed with this: I don't have experience to the Nords (except the micromodular but it didn't have performance mode).
This is maybe the first time to have something so good sounding, so easy programing and so good looking... all in one package...
What I wanna do, is to create a blank single program and then create a sound from the start with everything on it (lfos, velocity, morphing etc.) then load it to a blank performance and see... (or hear).
I'll keep you informed |

Hello vanner,
did you read this: http://www.electro-music.com/forum/topic-41663.html&sid=49d199309f76f523d60bfae8583306e4
Perhaps your NL2X also have the "illness" - as I described with - "sudden change of the value in the display or "self-changing" of parameters without turning the knobs"???
Best wishes,
