I've been following the thread in the Nord Modular section about the idea of a G3, which has now changed subjects to the Sonic Core Xite/Scope system. Cool stuff...

I'm interested in programmable synth systems that give me direct access to hardware. I know there is a huge gray area between software only systems and hardware only (analog) synths. (Where does hardware turn to firmware to software?) Anyway, my constraint is that there is some kind of user access to the low levels of the system. (e.g. that takes the UAD and PowerCore systems out of the running for me.)

I'm familiar with the following list of hybrid synth/DSP systems:

Programmable/SDK available:
Chameleon (out of production)
Qix (Chameleon replacement. Not sure if this project is active any more.)
Creamware/Sonic Core Scope
Of course, ProTools...

No (?) SDK, but low level reorganization of modules and routing:
Clavia Nord Modular G1/G2
Symbolic Sound Kyma (Seems to be more of a sound design/manipulation system?)
Eventide Harmonizers (H7600/H8000 - effects and sound manipulation)

What other systems are out there that provide programmable DSP systems or low level hardware access?

Likewise!

It looks like you have the selection covered.... Smile

Regarding Symbolic Sound : To my understanding there was a low level, as in DSP assembly, SDK for the previous generation of Symbolic Sound hard/soft -ware, i.e. the Capybara. However, I haven't heard about any SDK for the Pacarana yet, and AFAIK it's still a secret which DSPs are in it - perhaps some of our Pacarana users have an update on this?
