Introductory movie
I tend to bring up stuff that I think other people should do, and I did this in the soundbytes subforum thread regarding the fact that there isn't an introductory movie for the electro-music.com site (besides the nice electro-music event movie that mosc did a couple of years ago). I've been meaning to try out the movie-making stuff I have on my computer for a while, and maybe try out some stop motion stuff, so I thought: why not try to do such an introductory movie? If it turns out to be crap, at least I've learned something about movie making etc.
So I've put together the storyboard (or whatever you call it) below. I would love if someone could have a look at this and give a shout if:
1) This kind of video is not desired, or already in the making elsewhere
2) something is wrong/inappropriate/could be worded differently (go ahead an point out anything - a lot of the text was written quickly with little afterthought)
3) Some large renovation of the site is underway, which will render large parts of the movie obsolete
1 may urge me to try doing something else. If 2 is the case, I would love input with better solutions. If 3, I may go ahead anyway, just to try out the concept.
I haven't decided what background music would be best - suggestions would be great.
I won't promise that this will happen very soon, or at all, but I think I have the motivation to at least give it a shot.
-------------------------------------------------
Screenplay / board for an introductory video for electro-music.com
Bullets with bracket-enclosed text means that the text will be displayed on the screen.
------------
1. "Welcome to electro-music.com, a thriving community site for electronic music topics, and more"
2. Animation of "http://electro-music.com" being typed into a url field
3. The front page being displayed in a browser window
4. Animated pointer floating towards the "Forum" link at the top. "Planet-sized forums section with tons of friendly, insightful discussions between thousands of contributors" appears below
5. Animated pointer floating towards the "Radio" link at the top. "24 hour a day radio station hosting live shows, events and countless hours of archived, member-contributed music " appears below
6. Animated pointer floats towards the "Please visit the chat" link under MOTD radio info. "An active chat where you can ask about everything concerning the site, music in general, or what's currently playing on the electro-music.com radio". appears below
7. Animated pointer floating towards the "Media" link at the top". "Countless hours of downloadable, member-contributed music". appears below
(I am not including pointers to the store or articles section here, because I think they are kind of tiny compared to the three above. If someone feels I should include something about them, please help me with what would be appropriate to say)
8. Pointer floats back to the forums link. Animated click and the forums section appears
9. "With…" label appears superimposed top left-ish.
10. Further labels appear next to sections, as we scroll to them and highlight:
i. Highlighting "Discussions" - "Are you looking for info on some composition technique, what it takes to start making music at all, or just eager to share your insight in music, life, the universe and everything? Check out the discussions section"
ii. Highlighting "DIY Hardware and Software" - "Want to create your own synth or doomsday machine? Check out our huge do-it-yourself section!"
iii. Highlighting "Instruments and Equipment" - "Looking for info on how to use a specific synthesizer or other kind of instrument? Check out the Instruments and Equipment section!"
iv. Highlighting "How-tos" - "Looking for information about synths, gear, or how to use them? Check out the "How-tos" section!"
v. Highlighting "Online Music" - "Looking for useful sounds or tons of awesome music, a lot of which can't be found anywhere else? Check out the Online Music section!"
vi. Highlighting "Clavia Nord Modular" - "For Nord Modular freaks, electro-music.com hosts what is arguably the largest forum in the world for all things Nord Modular".
vii. Quickly pointing at "Artists" and "News" - "Or if you want to check out these awesome featured artists, or know what's happening in the world of electronic music…
11. Animated picture of text being typed into the "Post Reply" page (something in the line of "I've used the Evolver a lot for sounds like this…"). "Or share your insight in any of these sections…" appears above
12. "The electro-music.com forums are for you!"
13. Animated picture of the front page again, the radio link being clicked. "Or just listen to some awesome music" appears below
14. HIghlight the currently playing info. "Here's what's currently playing" appears to the side.
15. Animated pointer clicking the "tune in" link. "Click here to listen to hours of wildly varied music, from techno to concrete, from jazz to industrial, from Earth to the Andromeda Galaxy".
16. Highlight the Radio Schedule on the left. "Most days there will be a show in the afternoon or evening (in relation to american or european time zones)."
17. Display an animated chat window. "Hang out in the chat while listening" appears to the side.

It looks like a nice start. If you start on this storyboard, if we end up having edits you should be able to insert scenes anyway, so I'd say go for it. Thanks! _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Ok, here's what I ended up with
I haven't figured out how to configure the still you see before you press play yet, that should be something else.
First comments was that it's a bit too fast-paced, which fits what I often end up with (I like fast) .
I would love specific comments on what could be improved, if you just think the whole thing is shite, or if you find some specific thing nice.
The aim here is to highlight the various parts of the site, not go into exactly which artists are featured, which instruments are features, etc. If someone is interested in circuit bending and watches this video, I'd like there to be a good chance that the person saw the word "DIY" in there, and figures he or she will have a look at the site proper. Etc etc. _________________ Antimon's Window @soundcloud@Flattrhome - you can't explain music

Thanks for all the kind words I'm realigning myself with workdays currently, when I can think straight again I'll see if I can try to stretch out the time for the captions - shouldn't be to hard as iMovie supports slowing down..
