Sound lab with Buchla Modules |
|
|
Hello, I'm building a patched out version of the SoundLab Mini-Synth plus. I've also been picking up a few things from www.fluxmonkey.com; this includes some of the Buchla modules this fine young lad has created. I bought them because I am an adult with modest disposable income who was not allowed enough Ninja Turtle action figures as a kid and must now impulsively buy (fairly priced!) PCB's. I'm seeking to make noize with a 'z' and work my way up the learning curve to something better; while this goes on I hope to use the hell outta any gear I'm making. Think Delia Derbyshire beating Cabaret Voltaire with a foam bat.
Question is this: if I'm powering the Soundlab with a dual +12/-12 V's, will the Buchla curcuits function alongside this same power source? From what I've gathered online the Buchla powered by 10 V although I've seen others. Here are links to the schematics of said PCB's: http://rubidium.dyndns.org/~magnus/synths/companies/buchla/Buchla_1600_1_200.jpg

A push in the right direction would be much appreciated!
Daniel
P.S. Anyone else here think that flux-solder smells like peppermint? |

With regard to smell, there are various types of solderwire with different types of flux. Some are worse than others, but yeah, I don't mind the smell, peppermint though hmmm.
IIRC, some of the older Buchla circuits use 15V, I think the 144 does, I did a board for that, but it also works on 12v.
Low pass gates (292 and such) is just a opamp with a few vactrols, so will happily work on most voltages you throw at it.
The circuits you posted probably work on +12v and ground (just do not use the -12v)
I have built that 208 random generator, and I have it in the 15v segment of my case, not sure if that will work on 12v (but probably does). |

I've built the 208Random, too, and mine runs on 12V (after a power diode, so probably more 11.3V.) |

Alright, to GND and 12+. Good to know and will try - thanks for all the feedback. |

"young lad"? (i'm a grandpa)
As mentioned, the random source should work fine on 12v. From memory, the BPF will work but not quite as well (lower output swing, i think), and the 160noise source probably will not... i think it needs the higher breakdown voltage to get a usable noise level. _________________ www.fluxmonkey.com |
