I figured out, using a cd4040 binary counter allows you to change the rhythm of a sequencer in some amazing ways!
I am sure that I am not the first one who came up with this idea, but I was wondering why I didnt find any schematics on the web.

If you look at the drawing, youll see that the output of pin no. 5 has 2 diodes.
When you feed it to the clock input pin of a 4 step sequencer it makes it count like this:
1-2-3-4-1111-2-3-4-1-2222-3-4-1-2-3333-4-1-2-3-4444....

So this means that the outputs of the sequencer counts 1-4 very fast, then it stays at output 1 4-times as long as on the others til it goes on counting then it stays at output 2 4-times as long ... and so on.

If you unconnect the 4040s pin no. 5, the rhythm changes to a different way.
And there are many more crazy options. The cool thing is - that it is very controllable by using switches.

that is very interesting
would like to see it expanded to those other options you mention
and hear some samples of what you come up with

the soundsample is just one saw-oscillator modulated by the "rhythm-4-step-sequencer. it would be interesting to show you the led indicators and what they do, but I am sorry I dont have a cam.

It starts as a regular 4-step sequencer clocked by the diode output on pin no. 9. (Which is exactly half the frequency of the master clock)

At 00:17 I swich on all outputs together.

At 00:56 I switch on only pin 9 and 6. But there is a bug! Because on my 3-way switch there is still the output of the 2 diodes from pin 5. Although it shouldnt affect the output now, it still does it anyway.

So at 01:16 I cut off the cable to the swich and now it changes to a third preset rhythm.

I am gonna change my device, so I dont have to cut a cable everytime I wanna play the 3. preset Wink

Also I cannot play the clock faster than on the soundclip because the counter starts to freeze and thats really a pity. You can also use other combinations to reach the very same effect with a faster clock, but I have to figure out how to do that.
