Subject: Modular Manufacturers.
Hi Stein,
About the thread that I have said you that I will publish:
Two days ago I phoned Cynthia and the problem will be resolved. This was my first conversation in English by phone! I understood an she understood.
After that I decided to call Wowa Cwejman, and he said that he don't have anything to discuss with me and cutted the phone. He did not allow me to say anything.
I don't understand... If I publish all that I know, I will damage his company very, very much. I really don't want to do it. I admire the work of this man. But... he doesn't give me other choice.
The defense of consumer from Sweden have said that Wowa have other opurtunity for fix the synthesizer but i did not accepted because his solution doesn't work.
I remember year ago, when I have said my measures of the jacksockets to him, his answer was " - you have lost the warranty because you have opened the synthesizer" . No word of my measures. With him is always the same you ask for A and he answer for B.
I would like to ask you an advice about this matter due -i think- you have more experience than me in this kind off matters.
Other point is that I have found a jaks-male- that are more shorts than the usuals, from lemburg, I'm wondering if 0,5mm is enough separation within the jack plug tip and the PCB for avoid a short circuit. do you know it?
Also I sent a mail, informing him about the different jack plugs measures that I found in internet and no answer. (There are jacks plugs much more longs that his solution can resolve) and he did not answer.
I would like that he refund me the money of the synthesizer, due we lost complety the trust to each other. He doesn't understand that is the more cheap solution for both of us.
What do you thinK?
Thanks very much for you help.
Oscar. |
hmm.. well.. more people than Oscar are having probs with the Cwejman synths and the root of the probs is the tips of the jacks will eventually rub off the coating on the pcbs and make shorts.

it's a hard one - i will have to think about it.
1st thought was: what has EM to do with that (especially the DIY section)? EM should not take sides. but again, i will have to think about it... _________________

We don´t have anything to do with this, of course. But Oscar is kinda asking for some sort of advice.
It seems like Cwejman himself is a temperamental dude who isn´t too good at damage control. 0,5mm ? _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

I think Oscar should publish this indeed and when he chooses to do so on electro-music.com I think we should not remove it.
That is when it is a factual story about what happened etc. ... he tried to contact cwejman, good thing ... don't know, when he chooses to not respond he shouldn't be surprised the story finds another way ... on previous occasions Oscar had a factual story, he'll do that again I think, I've no problem with it, I think it's a good thing actually. |

I think it might be overreacting to prohibit Oscar from publishing his letter. It would be no different than if he posted it on AH or SDIY or another public forum. What we SHOULD do is try to prevent it from becoming some sort of back and forth endless argument. AH has a policy where, in a dispute, each side is allowed one post to state their side of the story, and that's it! I'd say we let this go ahead, maybe even invite possible solutions (since it sounds like Oscar isn't getting his money back or his synth fixed, he'll have to DIY it by adding some insulation film or...?), and gently remind peeps to limit their responses if it overheats.

I also think he should be allowed to publish his story. If it was a raving mad rant with froth around the mouth, I'd think otherwise. There's nothing in the sign-up conditions that says you can't discuss this kind of thing, and I think it must indeed be allowed to discuss manufacturers policies as well as products (Sound's case is about both). The manufacturers then have a chance to speak for themselves - especially useful when they refuse to speak directly to their customers...

Not a good method IMO (even though it's used in courts...) - I know that the first speaker can be royally f****d by the second speaker.

I think Oscar has really been trying to be both kind and patient. he has also learned that it is possibly to discuss such issues directly with the vendors. However, he is also an unlucky bastard. His experience with Peter Grenader and the Plan B modules... And now Cwejman
From my point of view, the way he documented the pretty crudely built Plan B modules was absolutely believable and the response from Grenader was rather stupid.
What should have happened was of course that Grenader should have learned and started making his products look like the stuff Arrick puts out.
Actually this is a bit maddening. The crappy build quality of the Plan B modules is supposed to be a feature and a stroke of genius? _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

yep. a forum is a forum. it's not taking sides by itself. comments by admins could be another thing though, and should be well thought out (what i believe you admins did in the past and do here all the time).
an advice? posting it here could be a first step? _________________

I don't know the product, so I really don't have a balanced point of view, but the one thing that crossed my mind is,
Why is the tip of a jack anywhere near the surface of a PCB?
If that is part of the design, and the clearances haven't been properly tested and accounted for, then I say, throw him to the wolves!
But,.....
How come there aren't a lot more complaints about it? Or are there?
If it's a commonly known design fault, which someone else has already voiced, then we are under no liability by hosting the same view. If not, then what has gone wrong in this particular case? If Oscar has had problems with other vendors, is he pushing the boundaries somewhat?
Bottom line is that EM isn't responsible for the views expressed by it's members. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

I completely agree with this - the forum isn't taking the side, it is simply hosting what a member is posting.
Personally if it helps to clean up the quality of some builders who should know better, I think that is a good thing ultimately. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Hey I just noticed this thread - did the letter ever get posted?
My two cents - I agree it should be allowed to be posted (if it hasn't already). The forum is a valuable resource for people - if a bit of news is unpleasent, it doesn't make it not newsworthy. As long as we remain neutral, that is. Like Fox News. _________________ My Site |
