Nord Lead 2X and basic MIDI functions |
 |
|
I am using my Lead 2X to control my Access Virus TI snow. I basically want to play sounds from the Virus using the Nord Keyboard. I am able to do this, but I would really like (if possible) to be able to use the Octave Shift and Volume Master Level (Gain) on the Nord in conjunction with the sounds coming out of my Virus.
This seems possible but I can't figure it out. It seems as if MIDI Controller #7 and #17 can accomplish this, but again don't know which buttons will do the trick. I would also like to easily toggle between the sounds on the Nord and the Virus, like turn MIDI off without having to unplug the cables.
I realize this is like MIDI 101, but I am primarily a piano player and this is super complex to me!
Any help would be greatly appreciated for these functions. |

I assume you only use 1 Slot (A) ...
To use the OctaveShift in KeyBoard mode just press Up and Down together until the LED’s are inverted. The Octave indication is now done by the dark LED.
The Volume can only be controlled by the Gain (Amplifier at the right side of the Panel). Master Level has no Midi.
About the toggling… When using Slot A, which is set to the same Midi channel as the Virus, you can play both. Switching to Slot B (same Bank), which is set to another Midi channel not set on the Virus, only the Nord will sound. Switching to Slot C, which is set to the same channel as Slot A, BUT the Lead’s Gain parameter is turned down (muted, anti-clock wise) the Virus will sound and the Nord will stay silent. In the last set up wanting to scroll through the Virus's sounds use a complete NordBank with 99 muted sounds or ask your wife to press the buttons, which means no changing Programs when she is cooking the meals! I strongly advise you to save this complete set-up as a Performance, so you don't need to change the configuration every time and you don't have to unplug anything! Yes, I can make you sound lazy...

PS I just checked, but Performance mode doesn't save Keyboard mode, so you have to do this manually.

Just a remark to everybody following this thread...
The fact KeyBoard mode is rarely used is because it is not that clear in the Manual and because just a few use Performance mode.
OctaveShift in Slot mode shifts the in-focus or blinking LED Slot (obvious, isn't it?) and leaves the other Slots at ease. KeyBoard mode shifts the KeyBoard itself and is for all active Slots (or other said the complete Performance). It also works on the Midi Out.
