lead 2x beginner question Subject description: i'm somewhat new to synthesis so bare with me |

Some exposition: So i recently picked up a nord lead 2x hoping to outsource the rather diminutive sounds of my microkorg and i basically have been slapped in the face. You see, i've come to realize that a lot of the voices i engineered on the korg were primarily effects driven so i'm kind of trying to take a crash course in synthesis now. Basically i've been trying to learn by recreating korg voices as close as i can on the nord, to see what correlates and what doesn't as far as functions are concerned.
As far as my question, i was watching this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgleogs_ll4 , on making a laser harp on the microkorg to see how close i could get the voice on the nord, and i think i pretty much could follow everything (other then the effect based instructions) except for two parts:
1.) He says to distort oscillator 1 to a value of 40 and i'm not sure how this translates to the nord's interface
2.) he says to patch the signal from the filter eg to oscillator 2, and then tune it to 50....basically i want to know if the patch sections from the microkorg translate to the nord, if at all, and how ecactly...
I apologize if these seem like they have a rather obvious answer, like i said i pretty much am still a beginner to synthesis, as well as the nord |

It’s is very difficult to interpolate values from one brand of synthesizer into another. Is there a way to read the values on the MicroKorg?
If you press [Shift+LFO1 Wave form] buttons together (that’s what the + means) and you tweak a parameter (knob) you can see the NordLead value [0 – 127]. Maybe 50 could mean ‘about 64’?
Is there a sketch of the configuration of the Korg, so you can compare the two synths?
Still keep in mind it’s very hard to emulate synths on other synths…

| thank you for your fast reply Wout, the parameter range on the microkorg is 1-127, though i should clarify by saying that i am less concerned with specific values (as i will probably tweak them to my liking anyway) and more concerned with the language being used, like when he says "patch the signal from the filter eg to oscillator 2", how would i even go about doing this? The only thing i can think of is setting LFO 1 to affect the filter, but I'm not sure, and will it always by default be affecting oscillator 2? |

The Filter Envelope Generator (EG) can't be directed to Osc2, it's Filter only, but the Modulation Envelope (Mod Env) can, although you're missing Sustain and Release here.
What are the settings of the Filter EG on the MicroKorg?
Does it have a Amount control too?
Wout
PS Had a listen to the YouTube file, but the Mod Env can do the trick easily, just be carefull with the Amount (You have to tune it in a way) and the Resonace... |
