Aha well there has been some interesting discussion that I almost missed out on. Bill the 2 PIC board with ICSP sounds super. I thought I could mention that I recently had a lot of fun sending 0-5v control signals from some basic Lunetta type LFOs into the PIC synth. Maybe your board could have patch points for the pot ins to accommodate also sending in such CVs?
Ahh, but of course, that is a fine idea and could easily "patch" over the potentiometers. Would just have to protect the MCU A/D inputs from anything above 5V but sounds like a nice idea.
Here is my list of things that are going to be sitting on top of this board:
(Fraktal 2x) Synthesizer PCB Ideas
(2) MCU's for Double the Fraktal FUn !
Prototype area
Line level pair (L/R) & standard modular 10V P-P pair (L/R) audio outputs.
(2) Onboard 1W audio amplifiers (left and right channel amplifiers).
(2) 6 pin ICSP programming male header for each PIC chip (For PICKit Programmers)
(2) 6 Pin RJ11 modular programming connectors for each PIC chip (For ICD 2 & 3 Programmers)
(2) analog 2 Pole State Variable Filters with electronically selectable Low Pass, Band Pass and High Pass mode with resonance control.
(2) Patchable "Multi Wave" LFO's
(2) Optionally installed PT2399 Delay processing chips for chorus and delay FX
MIX level between DRY, FILTERED, and optional PT2399 delay FX
PAN LEFT/RIGHT level for each synthesizer
Improved Output PWM filter by utilizing an active 2 pole, low pass filter with a 5 KHz cutoff to keep baseband PWM noise out of the audio chain. (original filter improvement in terms of placement of cutoff frequency and slope)
(*) Addition of BANK select logic for expansion to 16 banks of 16 patches for a total of 256 patches (currently there are 8 patches)
(*) SYNC OUTPUTS (5v or 10v output selectable)
(*) SYNC INPUTS (1.5v to 10v input level)
(*) For expansion
Here is one of the bread boards with the two main MCU chips on it.

I'm looking forward to this even more now. I guess we will need some firmware additions to cater for syncing two chips, is Yerpa working on that?
On another note, I got a reply from Catweazle and he very kindly said that he could provide all of the old fraktal synth demo files, we just need somewhere to host them....
Anyone have some server space? Maybe they could be linked to from Yerpa's fraktal synth page?

The hope is to release a schematic so that a standard "dual 18F processor version" hardware platform could be established so that folks could use if they wished to develop more patches. I specify the "18F" because I realize there has been talk of a DSPic version also.
I will also provide the Express PCB, PCB files if one wished to have them made but I will also have them available at low cost to anyone who wishes once completed.
I will probably break down and purchase the CCS Compiler (PCH52112-320, Command Line Version working under the MPLAB IDE) for $200.00 so that I could develop patches this board. To go the route of converting the syntax to the "C18" compiler is something I do not want to attempt nor have the time for.

Very nice, if anything, a simple BOX.NET area can be set up to DL them.
Thanks for posting again, catweazle! The source code for Nintendo looks interesting, especially the 12 db/oct filter. Any sound examples available to hear this filter?
Your nintendo fractal synth is very very interesting. Many thanks your source code. Very help me with my first teaching.
This is my first nintendo program about Chua oscillator with setting few parameters. This is first version my next teaching level is implementing sound.

Here are a couple pictures of a dual Fractal Synthesizer on a vector board. The is will used as part of a DIY setup at this years electro-music 2012 electronic music festival. It will be a collaboration entitled "The Soldering Musician and the Personal Digital Assistants". The board contains the original speaker amplifier for stand alone operation when connected to speakers and also has an LM358 based , capacitive coupled, LINE amplifier/buffer to connect to an audio mixer.
The original dual version was on solderless breadboard and did not have the LINE amplifier. It appears earlier in this thread.
I particularly enjoy using the WSG and FM sequencer patches on this synthesizer. It's a fun synthesizer to play around with !
Next the PT delay chips shall be added.
Its been a LONG while since I revisited this but still have to purchase the CCS compiler to add patches.
Bill

Here's a Picture of a fraktal synth I just breadboarded. The sounds are real cool.
Indeed ! Just very small amounts of input on the controls reveals some very unique changes in the sounds produced. You can experiment for hours !
I find that it's fun to play two of them and move each around in the stereo field.
