Our new server |
 |
|
We have migrated to our new server. This one is running on a up-to-date supported operating system. We are no longer hosted by a company that can pull the plug for "business reasons", which they did before.
There a several bug fixes we have made, and a few improvements. More are planned going forward.
If you have any comments, problems, suggestions, or complaints, please post them as replies on this topic.
Thanks for your patience, and thanks to all those who helped by testing the new server before we migrated. _________________ --Howard

Hi!
On the radio page:
https://ziggie.electro-music.com/radio/
I can't find links for external players anymore. I guess many people still use external players, because there you have an equalizer, plug-ins and output control for e.g. ASIO channels.
They must have been there in the past because I added one to my streaming hotlist:
https://www.interialabs.de/streams/index2.php
-> http://electro-music.com/radio/play.php/port_8050.m3u
Now when I click on the Radio01 link it says:
"Sorry, but no such track or port is available currently ... "
it is HTML inside port_8050.m3u
but http://electro-music.com:8050 works fine in my player.
maybe u can fix that, thx!
(or I have to make my own m3u on my server to link to...)
UPDATE:
OK, meanwhile something has changed:
port_8050.m3u now is not an m3u, but directly opens the HTML5 audio player in the browser as an mp3 stream... not really a step forward |

The 'here' link on the page top refers to ziggie ... when followed some stuff behaves odd .. the here link should be fixed.
radio.electro-music.com is not on the subject alt names .. so that url will complain when being used [and it may be all over the place].
This is the current certificate info :

Thanks everyone for the kind words and support!
Schugo — the m3u link should be working again now. It was broken in two ways: a DNS issue
on our end, and a mixed-content block from the HTTPS switch. Both are fixed. Your link
(play.php/port_8050.m3u) will generate a proper m3u file again that your external player
can use.
Jan — good catches. The "here" link is fixed (was pointing to ziggie instead of
electro-music.com), and I've added radio.electro-music.com to the SSL certificate.
Keep the reports coming — this is exactly the kind of feedback we need right now. _________________ --Howard

ok, thx! seems to work now in foobar 2000 and VLC.
Winamp5 can't open https.
But can you add a link on the radio page for every stream?
EDIT: when u click "song history" it takes you to http://electro-music.com:8050/played.html
there is a "Listen" link, which opens fine in external players.
(also Winamp over http://)
ciao.. |

Those links used to be there ... but were found to be too confusing for the general public [read: stupid USA folks] by Howard .. still I as well vote for them to be put back - pretty please. |

My streaming hotlist is up since ca. 2003.
The good radio stations always had a link for external players.
e.g.: I never had to change the URL of the SomaFM streams since 2003. Becaus they know what they're doing.
Around 2010 the lame radio stations/webdevs began to remove external links. WTF?
That suxx bigtime.
also if there's no external player link... you can not stream on a hardware radio player... except you are a pro webdev
ciao.. |

There is an issue with character sets .. utf or something .. see https://electro-music.com/forum/topic-74918.html ... this was properly done on the old server.
And the page fonts were ok and are suddenly larger .. when i set the browser to 80% to me it's like it used to be. |

I had noticed the different font sizes, but after the move the forum seems to be ok and media page as well now.
hmm, actually now that I reply I see that the font size at the bottom (below [Topic review]) still seem to be too large.
The bright blue color of the links on the media page also hurts my eyes a bit but it's not something that has a high priority. _________________ "My perf, it's full of holes!"

| And I was wondering if forum signups still work .. i had made some specialties for that process as well ... I'm out of email addresses myself and the forum wants a fresh one ... anyway, maybe someone else can test that. |

I fixed the media page color, and made the font size a little bigger. I noticed font sizes jumping all over the place too. It turns out that at least on chrome when you change the zoom percentage, it persists for that one host name. So, in my case the same pages looked different on on the different servers.
Did you notice that the "stay logged in automatically " checkbox when you log in works? The usergroups on the top forum mini menus works too.
Opps the links on the Radio page are the ugly color. I'll change that one soon too. In the meantime, I need a break...
The site is not perfect, but the migration is done. The last migration we had Steve Mokris, and this time Claude AI. Steve just jumped in an did stuff, then he vanished. Claude AI needs some patient guidance, but it stays with the job. Claude is not an artist, like Steve. _________________ --Howard

I tested the forum registration process in the early phases of the migration and it worked. Anything I can check specifically? _________________ --Howard

yes , exactly. On top there's a "Listen" link, which works fine with external players. So if you copy those corresponding links under every stream, would work perfectly
it's .pls though, but today's players should handle both m3u and pls

I've never used that - and as I manually log off from time to time without closing the page .. I guess it to be not meant for me .. but that is fine. |

Oh, that usergroups thing is nice .. and a whole lot of names can be eliminated .. as they never show up here .. but one can not edit from there .. does the admin group admin stuff work again too?
But at least can more easily contact people now .. heh .. if they'd show up
The media page to me looks good now, i have he whole forum zoomed at 90% which works for me with the icons too then. |

BTW .. the links section .. the one Carlo mostly maintained ..
it has not been used for a long time .. I guess it to be inoperable .. but as no one complains .. maybe that is fine as it used to be a great spam collector ... anyway, I don't know what the idea of it is .. maybe it can just go? no idea of it is still used for lookuup, but there must be a lot of, by now, irrelevant stuff in there. |

And .. Claudia will have one more very important task ..
to look for leaks in the system .. vulnerabilities, hackabilities .. and then make suggestions as how to fix those ..
as claudia's friends and relatives are currently being trained to to make mis-use of systems. |

I have thought long an hard about the need for these links for external players. I have a solution worked out, but I want to explain why I removed the "or try this link" from the radio page in the first place.
When an unsophisticated person, like me, sees our radio page and there is a link "try me", he/she will sooner or later click on it. When I did that I ended up on an obtuse Shoutcast page that made either no sense, or didn't load at all. Lately the browser started complaining about security problems. My reaction was to remove those links, To me, and almost everyone, the radio still worked beautifully. I heard no complaints until recently.
I now understand that it might be useful for some people to have those links. They may need to use their ancient unsupported software. But these confusing links don't belong on our radio page. So I have developed a compromise. Please check out https://sparky.electro-music.com/radio on our development server and notice a new link on the upper right. Click on "Links for use with external players" and you will see the links in question posted where you would expect them, in the streaming radio station forum. _________________ --Howard
