OK, how 'bout this? I dunno if it's even possible with the software, but....

How about every thread appears in the DIY Synth forum and specific topics are mirrored in subforums. In other words, if you post a subject in the Synth DIY that has to do with a Soundlab, an admin can mirror the topic to the Ray Wilson forum. That way, if one wanted to just look at only Ray Wilson stuff, he could go to the Ray Wilson forum. If he posted to a thread in the Ray Wilson forum, it would appear as well in the DIY Synth forum. It would sort be sort of an automatic rule-breaker that would double-post in both forums. This would act as a sort function.

If you wanted to look only at every JH thread that appeared in DIY Synth, only those threads would be mirrored in the JH forum, so you'd go to the JH forum. If you replied to the mirror post in the JH forum, it would appear there, and in the general DIY forum.

Programming nightmare? Yeah, probably.....

Make things scroll more quickly? Yes again, but one would see every DIY post in the mother forum, and would only visit the daughter forums if that's all one wanted to see. Admin actions on one post would affect both posts (such as a spam post getting deleted or moved to the holding bin).

OK, stoopit, but I never said I was smart.... Laughing

In your case there is no need to do so .. others will do it for you; only the not so smart have to do it themselves Very Happy

Ayway, this touches on two things, one already present the other not yet.

When you move a post to another place it is possible to keep a shadow copy in the original forum - when you look through the DIY section you will still find the Klee threads, but as a link to their new place.

The other thing is an idea that we've been discussing a good while ago, it's the list of lists. We even had a little demo of this once, but it never left the pre-alpha stage. The idea is to make it possible to make lists of links to posts that are interesting in one way or another - a bit like the mp3 list I made for the Klee music thread, except with a good layout etc.

The "problem" with mechanisms like thes is that they require some work from moderators, but hey, that's what they are payed for Wink

Yeah,

If I'm thinking right, that was my big idea, except it was to help people find PCB projects, IIRC. Mebbe I should just pursue that, though it will be a drag to keep track of it manually. I would expect at least a quadrupling of my salary.

Cheerio,
Scott
